Regular price $3.95
Family: Pink (Caryophyllaceae)
Annual or overwintering annual. 60 days to maturity
Spreading groundcover native to all temperate zones, as far north as the Arctic. Succulent, green leaves dotted upon maturity with white flowers to a height of 13 inches. Traditional usage (TWM): Spring tonic, digestive, weight loss, salve ingredient. Source of vitamins, flavonoids, and saponins. Harvest fresh for a wholesome, succulent and tasty salad green. Plant prefers soils that were heavily manured or composted the previous growing season and have now mellowed into aged compost. Try sowing it in the spot where that monumental zucchini died back. Sow in fall or spring. Mix small seed with sand to stretch it, strew seed on surface, press in, and keep moist until germination. Grows best in cool soils. In zone 7 and up, the plant may be harvestable even in midwinter.
